Packing Lists

INDOOR SLEEPOVERS (indoors)

WHAT TO PACK​

​

Evening Gear

  • Troop t-shirt shirt and sweatpants

  • Sleeping gear (sleeping bag, foam pad, pillow). Twin-size air mattress is okay (no larger). Bring your own battery-powered pump.  

  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Money for souvenirs at gift shop (optional)

  • Warm, comfortable clothes - There may not be an opportunity to change clothes, so participants should wear clothes comfortable enough to sleep in. Make sure to dress in layers as the aquarium’s temperature can vary greatly during the night.

  • Flashlight (Optional. Please refer to rules of conduct regarding flashlight policy)

 

WHAT NOT TO PACK:

  • Food & Drinks (Refillable water bottles okay. Please eat before you arrive)

  • Cots and lawn chairs

  • Air mattresses larger than twin size

  • Electronic games, Personal Music Players and other electronic equipment

  • Balloons

  • Heelys (sneakers with the wheel in the heel) are NOT permitted in the Aquarium. Guests with Heelys will be asked to remove their wheels and they may be picked up in the morning.

  • Electronics

  • Alcohol, etc.

 

HOW TO PACK YOUR GEAR:

  • Each individual’s / family’s gear should fit inside one large waterproof bag (such as a trash bag or duffel bag).

  • Remember that you are only packing for one night, and you will be carrying your own gear from the entrance to the storage area, from the storage area to your sleeping area and to your cars in the morning.

  • Storage space for gear is limited…please be respectful of other guests attending the event and pack light.

  • Name and Group should be clearly marked on the outside of the bag. Your gear will be stored with 350 other people’s gear. Make it easy to find your stuff!

WINTER CABIN SLEEPOVER

at Durland Scout Reservation

 

WHAT TO PACK

Daytime Gear

  • Daypack for hike with the “10 Essentials”…see scout handbook for items

  • Water bottle and trail food/snacks

  • Mess kit, utensils, cup for hot liquids

  • Appropriately clothing and outerwear for snow and cold weather

  • Winter boots

  • Extra pair of DRY shoes and socks in case boots/socks get wet

  • Sled (in case there is snow at camp) OPTIONAL

 

Evening Gear

We will be sleeping on bunk beds with a thin mattress. Cabins are heated.

  • Sleeping bag, pillow, pajamas, toothbrush/paste.

  • Change of clothes for Sunday

  • Skits, songs to perform with den and other scouts

  • Board games, deck of cards, etc.

  • Flashlight

TENT CAMPING

WHAT TO PACK

​

DAYTIME items for your daypack FOR ALL TRIPS

  • Scouts bring the “10 Essentials”

  • Bagged lunch (if Troop not purchasing)

  • ​Water bottle and trail food/snacks

  • Mess kit, utensils, cup for hot liquids

  • Appropriate clothing and outerwear for current weather forecast (plan for wet or cold)

  • Rain poncho

  • Extra pair of DRY shoes and socks in case boots/socks get wet

PERSONAL CAMPING GEAR

  • Tent (supplied by Troop)

  • Ground cover (plastic tarp that does on the ground underneath your tent)

  • Sleeping pads (recommend pads that self-inflate and do not need a pump)

  • Sleeping bags (use a bag rated for the temperature you are camping in; some bags are for 45 degrees or warmer, while other bags are rated for 30 degrees and below, or even Zero degree-rated bags)

 

PERSONAL GEAR in your overnight duffel bag:

  • Pillow

  • Pajamas

  • Toiletries (Toothbrush and paste , etc.)

  • Jacket/Sweater

  • Change of clothes for Sunday

  • 2nd pair of sneakers/boots in case first pair gets wet (Be Prepared!)

  • Skits, songs to perform with den and other scouts

  • Folding chair for evening campfire

 

When camping in cool/cold temps, also pack these items:

  • Knit hat to wear while sleeping

  • A liner for your sleeping bag to add a few degrees of warmth;  this can be a twin sheet from home

  • A sleeping bag rated for 30 degrees or lower

  • Gloves

  • Sleepwear can be long johns or sweatpants. While this may seem counter intuitive, plan to sleep in the least amount of clothing. Do not overdress for sleeping or you may get sweaty and then become cold.
